You Mean Three Hours of Sleep is Bad for You?

Woo hoo! I'm back! It's so nice to have a little holiday break!

Since I'm back online, I decided it would be a great idea to get organized. 'Cause I like organizing and stuff. I found this awesome calendar feature on my lappy. It has places to schedule things and what priority they are (high, medium, low priorities).

So I went through and organized all my times and activities. It was amazing and beautiful all at the same time. *wiping happy tear from eye*

But when I was done...(scary music here)...I realized not only was my day filled with activities, but every hour on my schedule was filled. (Except for the three hours I left for sleep - yeah, three hours. Sleep is so overrated. (Okay, I really need eight hours or I'm really grumpy. My kids know to stay away from me on those days.)

So I decided to look at what level priority they were. Most of them were high priority (school, laundry, bubble bath - you know that's high priority!)

And I found out I was spending two hours blogging each day. TWO HOURS! I can make three batches of cookies in two hours. Maybe four.

So I'm taking a second look at blogger and how I can improve my time here (because bloggy friends rock).

But I want your advice.

How much time do you spend blogging a day?

How do you keep up with all the awesome followers you have?

Thanks you guys! I'm going off to curl up on the couch now and sleep. (stupid needing-eight-hours of sleep. i have so much to do! i bet sparkly vampires never had a problem like this. lucky stinkin' vampires who don't need any sleep. *zzzzzzzzz*)

How much time do you spend blogging a day? - It depends on the day. I'd say per week it's about 5 - 6 hours. There are some days I don't read or post at all except to respond to a comment or something. However, sometimes I go through spurts, like right now, where I blog A TON and I don't seem to get anything else done. I am not consistent. I do get more than 3 hours of sleep, though. ;)

How do you keep up with all the awesome followers you have? - I don't. I keep blogging and hoping people keep coming back even though I don't have time to make it to all of their blogs. I really try. And I do look at ALL posts and mark about 2% of them to read and comment on. That's all the time I have. :(

Most of the time I try to get all my posts out for the week on Monday. Then I spend an half an hour or so (per weekday) on the reading others, commenting, and responding part.

I try to answer each comment I get with a quick email, but this week I was a slacker. Nyquil can do that to me.

I think if I spent more time commenting, I would have more commenters... But I'm trying to finish up on the MS, you know?

I am definitely online a lot. But I have a lot of downtime at work, so that's why. I also watch quite a bit of TV, so I'm a big multitasker.

It's hard to balance. I probably do 5 hours a week or more depending on what I'm doing, but I usually don't do anything on Tuesdays, or the weekends. I try to go comment on blogs who have commented on mine, then I limit myself to go to blogs that I follow. Like maybe twenty.

Glad to have you back. I consist on about 5 or 6 hours of sleep a night - three is definitely not enough.
I go in spurts with blogging, but I've cut way back. I don't comment like I used to and only read if I really like the person or a post looks interesting. I try to comment on everyone's blog who commented on mine. We can only do so much and real life has priority. Are you going to the Matched signing on Saturday.

I was reading blogs only Monday and Friday, but that got to be a bit cumbersome on those days, so I've switched to reading 10 blogs max per week day, and try to get to all my faves at least once a week. I spend about 45 min. per day, I think, unless I have to write a post. Then I spend a little longer. Good luck and sweet dreams!

I do maybe an hour a day. depending on if I really have time. I try to limit myself to limit the amount of time I spending writing posts too. If you think too hard about it, they become so not fun. And I have lists/folders organized in Google Reader. That way, if I only have a little bit of time, there's a few blogs I always try to read and they are already pulled out and waiting for me :) Good luck!

Welcome back! I probably shouldn't be commenting, because I don't have a single bit of wisdom to share. Nope, not a thing. I have two blogging habits: 1) Spend hours reading blogs or 2) Ignore blogs for days at a time while I catch up on everything else. Still trying to find that balance! :)

Glad you're back.
I'm still struggling with balance, I comment when I can in between homework assignments and kid stuff. I try to post one everyone's at;east once a week, but its hard sometimes. If I think I haven't seen a blog in a while I search it in my reader and find a post to comment on.
Your guess at organizing this is as good as mine. lol

Well, since we've talked about this before, I won't go over it. I'll just say that it's nice to see you. Have a good night's rest!

I need 7-8 hours for sure. I almost never get any more than that, though.

I am going through the same thing. I know I need to focus more on the family right now so any time I spend blogging is spent reading blogs mostly, but I really want to post on my own blog as well. It's hard, but I love not being stuck on the computer all the time. I need to set a block of time for blogging.

I also stopped trying to keep up with my followers and just stuck to the friends I've made and only occasionally visit other followers if they comment on my blog. I'm sure this is part of why I have so few followers, but I've never been trying to build up a readership or anything, so I'm good. :)

Now shut the laptop and get to bed!! :)

I normally read blogs a couple hours a night while watching TV. I can't just sit still and watch TV, so blogging is perfect is perfect for my need to busy hands. (I'm reading blogs during the day today because I have a sick kiddo at home.)

I live best with 7-10 hours sleep...

Have a wonderful weekend!

Welcome back, and yes you need waay more than 3 hours of sleep!! It's a hard balancing act, trying to get to all the blogs but not to let it suck all my time. If you figure it out, let me know. ;)

That is a constant struggle for me. What I did--and just recently--I broke my blogging buds up into three categories: Blogging Buds, Agents-Editors-Publishers, and then Resources.

I blog from my blog, not my dashboard, anymore, using those three separate widgets. It keeps them more organized and up to date.

It's not a science...yet. Hah!

Good luck!

This is a big issue for me right now as the blogosphere, as much fun as it is, is interferring with my life in so many ways.

I'm dancing as fast as I can but I still can't keep up.

Wish I could help you. Three hours is no where near enough!

I don't. Sometimes I do great, but most often I'm just so, so. Other times I'm just plain terrible.

But I've learned to be kind to myself (usually) and to not beat myself up if I fall short of what I might expect of myself.

I'm gonna spend some time reading your commenters thoughts though ~ I bet there's some gems in there!

LOL! I'm not THAT scheduled, but I'm very routined. Up at 7. Morning stuff. Go to work (where I do ALL my blogging). Home. Read. Write. Kids. Dinner. Taxi to activities. Bed (for them). Writing for me. In bed at 11.

Rinse, repeat.

So yeah. I do a lot of blogging, but I'm at work while I do it. So I don't think it really counts.

I say all the time that if had a superpower - I'd want it to be the ability to go without sleep, if I choose.

I spend about 45 minutes or so. Some days less, some days more. I usually have a "catch-up" day once in a while.

I also write most of my posts on small scraps of paper as I'm doing other things.
That's how.

Two hours is a lot of "real" writing time. Good luck figuring it all out!

Tell me if you figure it out. I'l think I have the answer and then two weeks later I find myself recalibrating again. Sigh.

I'm on blogs here and there when I get a chance. I used to make it a priority but now if I can't do most of it in the morning, I fit it in AFTER writing and home stuff.

I've had to cut back -which is why I pick one day a week to visit - and sometimes I miss that -but it does take several hours to visit everyone, read, and comment -lawd! the posting of my blog is the easy part ...

but, sure nice to visit and see what's up with everyone! :-D

*squish* I miiiiiiised youuuuuu!!!

(that sadly sounds like improper past tense of the word 'mice' with a d on the end if you say it out loud, but it's true, I did!)

I can't keep up with everybody- heck, most of the time I fail miserably at even replying to every comment and I hate that. It's because of my bad health in my case- if it's not the eyes on a given day it's something else falling off and needing to be Gorilla Glued back on. I almost quit blogging over it- but I care about my bloggy buds too much. So I just do the best I can and I hope it's enough.

Happy to see you! I'm amazed, I couldn't bake that many cookies in three days with a 24 hour hotline to Mrs. Fields OR the Kiebler Elves at my are a wonder!

February Grace said...

Good grief. "Improper past tense?" I meant, improper PLURAL.

I need to go night-night now...

I've been getting by on very little sleep recently. At some point it will catch up with me and I'll sleep for two day or something. I do my blogging in spurts or else I would accomplish nothing :)

I have such a hard time keeping up with blogging. I love it, but I'm lucky if I get two hours in, really. So my blogging comes in fits.

And I'm cranky and my body aches if I don't get a full night's rest too. :o)

Have a lovely day, Carolyn!

I'll be honest. Like most people here, I really don't get to visit all the blogs I would like to. I limit it to people who I've been following for awhile, or people who are very interesting, or people who are regular commenters on my blog. Also, I just don't blog all the often. I used to blog about twice a week, but now I only blog once a month because that is how I keep my sanity. So I usually check people's blogs about the same time that I post. So that way, I may miss stuff, but I can actually focus on writing and living my life. Sure, it's not the best plan for building a platform and everything, but it's how I feel balanced right now. And I feel guilty taking so much time for blogging right now when I'm not even published.

whoa, I definitely could not function on 3 hours!
I blog for fun. For pure enjoyment of connecting with other bloggers. If it gets stressful, I'd stop. There are too many stresses in life that you can't control. Sometimes, I blog four times a week, I'll spend a few hours reading everyone's blogs and commenting. Then, some weeks, I'm lucky if I get one post in, and don't visit any blogs. I don't like schedules! I know the number one blog rule is to blog regularly, but I just have to do what works best for me. So do you.

Lynn said...

I gave up on keeping up with everyone! Blogging helps me stay connected and keeps me writing. It's the writing part that can take a lot of time for me because I'm slow but trying to speed up with the latest challenge!

I try to stick with commenting for an hour a day or up to 10 blogs, whichever comes first. I have a daily photo blog too so I divide the time between the two. Hope you had a good nap!

I write all my blogs in advance and schedule them to post, then I pick one day a week (or as it's worked out lately, a month) and catch up on as much blog reading as I can. It's not terribly efficient, but it works for me.

Good luck!

Oh this is such a timely question, I'm considering the hours spent blogging vs. writing. Working on my MS I think should take priority. I exist on 6hrs sleep, mostly during the week. Blogging probably 1-2hrs, schedule permitting, -tonight for example posting and catching up has taken me 2 hours. Happy napping dearie!
