Well Worth the Watch

Neil Gaiman is amazing. This commencement speech is twenty minutes, but well worth watching. And so true.

Happy writing everyone!

It's a holiday this week here in Utah.

So I'm celebrating this awesome state by watching How the Avengers Should have Ended. (Those HISHE people are amazing writers. Seriously. They crack me up.)

P.S. don't watch this if you haven't seen the movie. There's some spoilers. Have a great week everyone!

Have you notcied that I haven't been here much (okay, not at all).

It's because I'm unplugged. Yup. I've been unplugged since June, but wanted to keep up with my posts, so if I haven't been at your blog, this is why.

I'll be back at the end of August. But I'm playing hookie with my kids (and to be honest, it's been a ton of fun).

I'll keep my scheduled posts up, but please don't be offended if you don't hear from me until then. It's not that I don't want to be here. It's just that I'm needed elsewhere (it's kind of a nice feeling to be needed).

So I will see you all when school is back in (and hopefully a bunch of new ideas for my wip).

Have a great summer everyone. I'll see you later. ;)

We all feel it from time to time. At times we have more than our fair share.

That feeling when you find yourself comparing yourself against the best (that skinny girl down the street, the writer who whipped out 20k in one sitting, the newbie writer who landed that agent).

Or when you look at something different than you had in the past and realized that you were wrong about certain things (eating 1,000 calories in chocolate and thinking you wouldn’t gain weight, thinking that first ms was a masterpiece) (lol…or was that just me?)

When you look in the mirror and ask, “What was I thinking?”

Well, I’m ready to tell you that we are all inadequate and that won’t stop us anyway. I’ve been told that if you believe enough and work hard enough, it will happen. I totally believe that.

But you have to want it enough.

I hope I do. What about you? Do you think you will make it?

Dear America,

I just wanted to thank you today for everything you've given me.

The ability to run down to my local grocer and pick up the freshest fruits and veggies around (and yes, even an occasional chocolate bar).

To have the choice to read any book I want, even the books that people want banned (I totally read Harry Potter more than twice).

Thanks for giving me the ability to do whatever I want with my life. To be a lone drifter on the calm and quiet roads or an outspoken activist stirring up the hearts of those around me.

I'm grateful for the rights I have as a woman that I see so many others deprived of.

Thank you for giving me a chance to speak my mind without the worry of unmerited retribution.

Even though I know we may have had our differences from time to time, I find myself indebted to you for all you do for me and all those who have helped make you who you are today. You know…the real heroes that are out there.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, Happy 4th of July America.

You mean a lot to me.
