Deadlines and Dead socks.

If you've noticed I haven't been commenting lately, it's because...*nervously looking away* I haven't.

I was given two deadlines, one for my house (we had a dump run and I tried to de-clutter everything...it didn't work out as nicely as I would have liked - there is still a huge pile for me hiding in the basement) and the second was my final paper for my YA reading class (can I just say, awesome class).

Deadlines come with most things - the dirty baby diaper deadlines (if you have not had a baby, this has to do with the stinkifying of good breathable air), work/school deadlines (to prove to the college professor that you actually understand the meaning of relativity...which I kind of don't - I never did take physics). And yes my friends with writing.

Once you get an agent, you will have to deal with edit deadlines, synop deadlines, and anything else your agent needs you to do. It is always a good idea to do this with a positive attitude (because no one wants to be known as the one who "is really hard to work with". Really...not a good title). So be forewarned, there will be deadlines.

And now I have a deadline to tackle that pile of dead socks in the basement. I'm totally calling Super Laundry Girl to take care of this one.

Any thoughts on deadlines? (p.s. I'll be back around next week to the commenting. Have a great week everyone!)

I've always set deadlines for myself - it really helps. The good news this week is that I set a finish date of May 17 for my novel. I ended up finishing it yesterday!

I do well with deadlines even ones I set for myself, its the waiting for anything that gets to me. :) Do what you need to do- I'll still be around when you get back.

I am definitely a procrastinator and wait until the last minute. But I'm trying to be better!

I set goals for my writing, but I wouldn't call them deadlines. It helps me stay focused.

I need external deadlines. Self imposed deadlines don't work on me. Give me a glorious day outside and I'm distracted and answering the call. Outside is louder than words, more often than not.

Sigh. I'll get the whole sit in chair and get back to work grown-up
approach one of these days. (Hugs)Indigo

From one deadline to the next, it's always good to have something due. Like someone I once knew, "if you don't have a deadline to meet, you might as well be dead." I forget who said that, but I will agree that working towards a deadline always makes me feel more alive than not :)

I usually try to be done early for my deadlines for my agent. I want to be the "wow, she is so easy to work with" girl. ;)

Congrats on finishing (or almost finishing) your class. Woohoo!

"Stinkifying" Love it! The only really bad thing about being a published author are those awful deadlines. Yuck.

Ha! I'm not a fan of deadlines. Not at all. Good luck meeting yours!!

Don't you sometimes wish elves were real, like the elves who helped the shoemaker? Maybe a laundry elf? :)

Deadlines work well for me, when I'm accountable to someone else. I'm trying to be accountable to the deadlines I make, but find it much harder which really is wrong. I should be treating myself just as valuable as the ones who put deadlines on me!

If I have a deadline, I have to rush to finish it. I can't help it.

Deadlines make the world go round at a steady pace, don't you think? And hey, good for you for knowing your priorities.

I do well with deadlines although it does wreck my nerves a bit--even self-imposed deadlines. LOL

Hi Carolyn,
It's been too long since I stopped by! I've been thinking about you for a couple of weeks. How are you? Have the socks disappeared yet?
My current deadline concerns sewing sleeves on two daughters prom dresses before Saturday...and I'm not a seamstress. It takes me forEVER. But I love them, so I'll try. :)
((HUGS TO YOUR AND YOURS))

Yes, and it's called spring break deadline. Oh wait. I guess that's not really a deadline. Nope, I guess I just have distraction deadline or taking care of children deadline.

No worries. I haven't been making the rounds either and I don't have any deadlines to blame.
