Conferences 2010..oh yeah!

So… *looking around the room like I’m trying to keep a secret* …I’m getting ready to go.

Yeah, I’m cleaning out the old statistics bag and filling it with important stuff – first chapters, notebook, pens, chocolate. (BTW, I totally passed that stats class. Mwa ha ha! I’m so glad.)

Why? because it’s conference time! Whoop, whoop (that’s my happy cry). I am on my way to mingle and meet with other awesomely cool writers, editors and agents. I’m very excited.

But also a little bit nervous. I won’t lie, last year after the conference I left discouraged. I didn’t feel like I was where I wanted to be in my writing. I wanted to be further ahead in my craft, I wanted to be querying, I wanted to be pitching my story to the professionals. Plus I totally lost that 1st chapters thing. *wiping tear from eye*

Well, now it’s a year later, I am writing my last chapter of my dystopian (I know…last chapter! Whoop!) I am revising my Incognito Burrito (and other things I did on my trip to Mexico). Things are looking up. I hope I can go to this conference and feel like I am getting on top of my game. Plus L.T. and I are hanging at our most righteous hotel room together this year (I love that girl!), so she will have to hear all my complaints and wishes (we may have to order midnight room service….do they have midnight room service? Oh, I hope so)!

This year will be great! And I won’t cry this time. Promise. Well, maybe a little.

So I am curious…Are you guys planning any awesome conferences this year??? I’d love to hear which ones, where they are and if you plan on getting room service. We should compare menus.

I will be at the IRA this Monday in Chicago! My ARC debuts next week and I will be at my publisher's (Holiday House) booth signing! This is a big one for me! I'll finally get to hold my book in my hands! Gah!

I can't do it this year though I'd love too! I've never been to one and I would be nervous to go to one... however I would love to try it out! Maybe I'll put one on my list for next year! I'd be interested to one's my fellow bloggers go to so I can put faces with names!!! How fun!!

I'm so excited you are so close to finishing your last chapter!!! Woohoo!!

I felt discouraged last year too - after the conference. I didn't enter the first chapter contest - I'd only just begin my story, but I felt discouraged by all the talk of how hard it is to get published and I had to decide if I really wanted to pursue writing even if I was never published. I chose to keep writing. Now I'm a little discouraged because I'm not as far along in my story as I wanted to be - I wanted to be done, but it's not an easy story to write. Anyway congrats on being almost done and congrats on doing well in stats - I hate anything that has to do with math. I'll probably cry if I don't win the 1st chapter contest, but there are so many great writers out there - competition is fierce. This is a very rambly comment. Can't wait to see you and Laura - so fun that you get to share a room. I won't be there until Saturday, but I may go to the mixer tomorrow. Excited to see you.

I really need to make it a priority to get to a conference, they're just so far away for me. Which conference are you going to?

And I concur with Mary: I hate anything to do with math, so well done.

Congrats on passing your class!! Woot woot! I'm sure you're very relieved that's over. :0

I am going to be at the AF conference this Saturday morning, talking about my road to getting an agent for 5-10 minutes. NOthing major, but I'm still excited! Other than that, I'm not sure I'm going to any others this year. It's kind of a crazy year, but we'll see! I need to see this dystopic one of yours, and I want to know how IB ends! ;-)

Oh! I realize I didn't get back to you about the CBC, Casual Bloggers Conference. You need to come. It's down the street from your house at the end of May.

I'll be there!!! And I hope there's room service too! If I see you crying, I'll totally give you a hug. Or maybe even if you're smiling. Beware of random hugging!

Oh, and congrats on the stats class! You rock!

I'll be there. Please stop me and say hello. I can't wait to meet all the new friends I've made blogging. And congrats on nearly being finished with your novel. That's definitely something to be happy about.

I had fun meeting you on Thursday night, and have liked poking around your blog.

I was the one standing there with a dumb smile on my face with you and DeNae, Becca, and Melanie J, trying to pretend like I knew what was going on...

Have a great time! I wish I could go to one of those, but there aren't too many going on around Paris and the few I've found are about double what I'd pay in the US. boo. I look forward to reading your posts about the conferance though!

I hope you had a great time at the conference. What with my hectic schedule as a blood courier {with ambitions of becoming published}, I'm afraid I will never get the chance to attend one.

Have a healing mid-week, Roland

May I just have a True Confessions moment here on your blog?

I was a straight A student...except: Stats! I had to hire a tutor. In my defense, the prof was a low talker, so that didn't help. But stats just do not, NOT come easy for me. Evil. Satan's math.
Sooo...you are my hero. I bow down to all that is your awesomeness. Well done.

As for conferences, I'm only going to one this year.
